Mountain Biking
Mountain biking is an exciting sport that can be enjoyed by everyone who knows how to ride a bike. It does, however, present some challenges compared to the average neighborhood ride. Master basic skills before you hit the real dirt and turn those obstacles into something to look forward to.
Practice Mountain Biking skills at a local park, school, bike path, or in your neighborhood. Try to find a safe location with a hill.
Get a Helmet
Get and wear a helmet . This simple concept has saved thousands of lives. Modern helmets are comfortable, stylish and every mountain biker wears one. You can go to your local bike shop and they will be happy to help you pick one out .
Some other safety equipment and accessories that I recommend are cycling gloves, some sort of hydration system, eye protection, bike shorts with extra padding where it counts, sunscreen, and a shirt made from quick drying material.
This individual sport requires endurance, bike handling skills and self-reliance, and can be performed almost anywhere , but the majority of mountain bikers ride off-road trails. There are aspects of mountain biking that are more similar to trail running than regular bicycling. Because riders are often far from civilization. Riders learn to repair their broken bikes or flat tires to avoid being stranded miles from help. This reliance on survival skills accounts for the group dynamics of the sport.
