While it’s easy to find a wide variety of things to do during Colorado’s summer season, it seems slightly harder to come up with adventure ideas on winter days if you’re not a ski or snowboard enthusiast.

However, our team of adventure experts created a fun list of Colorado winter activities for all ages and preferences.

.

1. Snow Shoeing

What a great inexpensive way to experience the Colorado outdoors when it’s covered in snow. Snowshoeing is easy enough for all members of your group. With snowshoes on your feet you’re able to get off the beaten tracks and go on adventures in winter wonderland.

2. Dog Sledding

Furry dogs, a sleigh and you get to experience the winter wonderland without having to walk? Well, that might just be the best winter activity there is!

Dog sledding is a unique, interactive and fun experience for dog lovers.
We recommend to go with Alpine Adventures in Leadville!

3. Horse-Drawn Sleigh Rides

Since we are already talking about romantic winter activities, let’s not forget horse-drawn sleigh rides. Let Two Below Zero take you on a dinner sleigh ride! Delightful sleigh rides through a majestic Rocky Mountain landscape. Warm cocoa. Plates loaded with hearty home-made fare. Followed by a show featuring live musical entertainment that will get the whole family laughing and engaged. Bring your family to this unique Rocky Mountain winter experience and you won’t regret it.

4. Guided Snowmobiling

Snowmobiling is one of the best winter activities for thrill seekers. White Mountain Tours is Colorado’s highest located snow mobile company. From family adventures on groomed trails to extreme tours for more experienced single riders, there is a snowmobile adventure for everyone. White Mountain Tours is located between Copper and Leadville, surrounded by spectacular mountain panorama and usually tons of fresh powder.
Chances are good that you get to see some of your favorite Adventure Company raft guides.

Many TAC crew members are snowmobile guides at White Mountain Snowmobile Tours, so they get to experience the joy of guiding throughout the winter months as well!

When you book your trip request Mark, Alan, Kawyn, Blue or Boston!

5. Rent Snowmobiles

If you’re an experienced rider and have an understanding of the snowy Colorado backcountry, Fun4You Adventure’s might be a good option for you.
Fun4You Adventures guarantees top of the line equipment and brand new snowmobile models from Arctic Cat. No lines, no crowds; just you, a snowmobile and beautiful wilderness.

.

6. Cross Country Skiing

Crosscountry skiing

Okay, so cross country skiing is a type of skiing. However, when in Rome… Or the Colorado Rockies….some sort of skiing makes it on every winter activity list. 🙂
Rather than downhill skiing in a ski resort, you can explore remote trails at your own pace while spending a fraction of what you would on a day in a ski resort.

If you’re a first timer don’t be shy, you will be surprised how quickly you can figure out the basic moves of cross country skiing.

Where to rent cross country skiis:
In Buena Vista: The Trailhead http://www.thetrailheadco.com/rent/

In Breckenridge: Breckenridge Nordic Center http://breckenridgenordic.com/
In Frisco: Frisco Nordic Center http://www.townoffrisco.com/play/winter-activities/snowshoeing/#title

7. Tubing

Tubing is a great activity for families and fun seeking adults. We recommend the Frisco Adventure Park for a one-hour tubing experience next to Lake Dillon. If you have a Keystone ski area lift ticket, we highly recommend their tubing hill. This way you get to enjoy scenic mountain views while tubing. Both attractions offer a magic carpet so you don’t waste your time and energy running up the mountain and get to enjoy as many rides as possible.

.

8. Zip Lining

Zip Lining isn’t only a summer activity. Zip through the winter landscape on a sunny winter day.

.

9. Day trip to Garden of Gods

Drive to Garden of Gods visitor center, grab a map of the rock formations and make it a treasure hunt. Who can find the kissing camel rock first?
This attraction is free and the trails are well maintained & easy to explore. Drive the loop through the Park and we can guarantee you will find some photo worthy views.

A stroll through Manitou Springs downtown is definitely a good idea before you drive back home.
